Chapter 6: The Clan Arrives

Leah

Oh God, oh God… we are almost there! On the horizon I can make out Bryan’s Grandmother’s house. Breathe Leah, you have to relax. Everything will be alright… at least that is what I keep telling myself.

“Leah…” Alanna’s voice snaps me from my thoughts, “You are kind of bending the door hand, if you don’t stop you may actually break the door off.” She says, her voice full of concern, though I can tell she is trying to suppress a laugh too.

My eyes snap down to the handle, and lo and behold I have almost snapped the entire thing off. Using my other hand I pry my white knuckled fingers from the plastic handle. I hear Alanna whistle beside me as she takes in the dented handprint I left behind.

“I am actually surprised you didn’t obliterate that.” Geoff said as he leaned over to catch a glimpse. “Must be sturdy plastic…”

Bryan chuckled, “Or Leah didn’t want to break my car.” Taking a hand from the wheel he tapped the roof, “Again. She turned my car into a regular convertible”

My cheeks turn a bright red as I feel Geoff and Alanna’s quizzical stares bury into me, “Bryan…” I mutter as I shift in my seat, “Why did you have to bring that up again…”

You see when Bryan and I first started dating he asked me out to dinner. The sneaky devil didn’t tell me where we were going, so he had me close my eyes as he drove downtown. Now the car ride was fun, I couldn’t wait for the surprise! We talked about his job, and how I was doing academically.

However… something just had to ruin the beginning to the perfect evening. Just as we were about there, Bryan slammed on his brakes. A siren and sounds explosions accompanied the sudden stop. This really really didn’t scare the tar out of me, but like a creature of habit I leapt into action.

For a split second I forgot I was in the passenger seat, and I went straight through the roof...

Long story short, a guy was trying to be romantic with his wife. The genius left some candles burning in their bathroom, and the curtains caught fire. Which in turn caused the body spray can he had on the lip of the tub to explode in a glorious fashion.

Thankfully they survived, but I ended up ruining Bryan’s car.

“It even rained on our way home!” Bryan chuckled, “The night started with a bang, and ended with rain.”

“You are never going to let that one down, are you Bryan?” I asked pressing a foot against the seat. Playfully I push against it, the metal easily budging from my simple push.

Bryan chuckles, “I yield, I yield.” He said as he pushed back, “That story will not leave this car, I swear on my name.”

Bryan

I could not help but get a laugh at Leah’s embarrassment, I know it sounds ass-holish but she was adorable when flustered. When we first started dating I was actually a bit nervous about how she would act, being superhuman after all. However my worries were put to rest very quickly, as I saw past her quirks that second night we spent together.

Leah shared with me her fears, and in that moment revealed how vulnerable she felt because of that. Her entire life people treated her like she was something other than human. She was more afraid of herself, that she would do more harm than good. Leah told me about how she always had to keep herself in line, otherwise she could severely harm someone.

I will never forget taking her in my arms and holding her close, trying to comfort her as her tears rolled down my chest. In that moment I realized I wanted nothing to harm this amazing woman, and that I would protect her as best I could.

“We are just about there.” I said turning up the driveway. Grandma’s house was on a hill in the middle of a twenty-five acre lot. As a kid I always referred to it as The Kingdom of Gran, since her large two-story house dominated the landscape. Apparently the house has been in our family for generations, and each Delfeld owner expanded upon it. It was the perfect house for our family, especially when my Grandma was raising my Dad and his six other siblings.

“Wow,” I heard Leah gasp, “Your grandmother has a lot of land!”

“Well with a family as large as ours you kind of need it.” Alanna said with a laugh. “The Delfeld Clan is constantly growing!” Rolling down her window, my sister began to frantically wave to someone on the porch.

“Ahhh, there is the birthday girl herself.” Geoff said, “Your grandma is one hell of a woman. I find it hard to believe she is ninety-five. She doesn’t look a day past seventy.”

“Well, where do you think we get our youthful looks?” Alanna giggled, “When Geoff proposed to me a police officer stopped him and asked for our licenses. Apparently I looked sixteen, even though I was twenty-two. That’s what Geoff gets for trying to be romantic in the big city.” She laughed, and threw her arms around her fiance’s neck.

“You ready for this, Leah?” I turned to ask my girlfriend, “Just remember, relax. Everything will be fine.” Our eyes remained locked with one anothers, the moment stretching for an eternity. “No one will hassle you about your powers, my love.”

“In fact, they might not even know about them.” Geoff added in an attempt to lighten the mood.

“Thank you, Geoff.” I muttered as I got out of the car, and opened Leah's door.

“GRANDMAMA!” A young voice thundered from the doors, “I HAS A QUESTION FOR YOU!” The doors slammed open to reveal one of my twelve year old cousins, Reece.

Reece's eyes went wide, and jaw slack, when he noticed Leah. An eye twitched as recognition settled in.

Oh no… I recognized that look. Reece, the worst possible one to notice, knew exactly who Leah was.

Spinning on his toes Reece fled back inside. “GUYS BRYAN'S HERE WITH HIS GIRLIE!!! GUESS WHAT, SHE'S THE ONE WHO CRASHED INTO POPA’S HOU--”

“Well…” My grandma cackled, “Guess the cat's out of the bag?”
I am currently laying on the floor in my mom's home office finishing this story.

I expected my family to be up later tonight, so I did not bring any sort of laptop or 3DS, because socializing.

They all went to bed around 1030 lol, so I have been writing on my phone.

I will add the picture and previous chapters later.

The fateful meeting with Bryan's family draws near. How will Leah react?!
